Overview & Visitor Introduction

St Paul's Cathedral, Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece completed in 1710, is one of London's most recognizable landmarks, its dome a defining feature of the City of London skyline.

The sightseeing ticket (£27.00 adult) includes the Cathedral floor, the Crypt, and the Dome Galleries (Whispering, Stone, and Golden Galleries) — dome access is part of the base ticket, not a separate purchase. Like Westminster Abbey, sightseeing is not available on Sundays, which are reserved for worship.

History & Significance

The current cathedral, Christopher Wren's design, was built between 1675 and 1710 to replace the medieval Old St Paul's, destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. Its dome remained the tallest structure in London for over 250 years.

The Cathedral has hosted state occasions including Winston Churchill's funeral and the wedding of Charles and Diana, and survived the Blitz largely intact — an image of its dome silhouetted against wartime smoke became an iconic symbol of British resilience.
