Peggy Guggenheim Collection Guide: Tickets, Hours & Pass Compatibility

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection occupies Palazzo Venier dei Leoni on the Grand Canal, the former home of the American collector Peggy Guggenheim, and houses one of Italy's leading collections of European and American modern art, from Cubism and Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism.

Standard adult admission is EUR 17, with a reduced rate of EUR 14 for seniors aged 70+ and FAI members, and a further-reduced rate of EUR 9 for students under 26 and visitors aged 10-18. No reservation is required.

The museum keeps standard hours of 10:00-18:00, and is closed every Tuesday and on 25 December — plan around the weekly Tuesday closure specifically, since it catches visitors used to Monday-closure museum schedules elsewhere in Venice.

This is a crucial, easily-missed point for pass shoppers: the Peggy Guggenheim Collection is a privately-run foundation (the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation), confirmed to sit entirely outside the Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE) network. It is not included in the MUVE Museum Pass, either Venezia Unica City Pass tier, the Chorus Pass, or Turbopass Venice's inclusion list. Visitors often assume a city pass covering 'the famous museums' will include it — it won't; admission here is always a standalone ticket.

Peggy Guggenheim, an American heiress and one of the 20th century's most influential art collectors, purchased the unfinished 18th-century Palazzo Venier dei Leoni in 1949 and lived there for three decades, assembling a personal collection spanning Cubism, Futurism, European abstraction, and Surrealism, alongside close friendships with artists like Jackson Pollock, Max Ernst, and Marcel Duchamp.

The collection opened to the public in 1951 and passed to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation after Peggy Guggenheim's death in 1979, per her wishes, becoming one of Venice's most visited single-site museums while remaining independently run rather than joining the city's civic museum network.
